AutoScreen developed and patented the continuous screenchanger and has 40 years of manufacturing and processing experience.
The only spare parts we recommend to have on hand are a couple of heaters and a thermocouple. These standard off the shelf items can be purchased from a local supplier or from us. Our filter screens and parts are always in stock and can be shipped by courier for fast delivery.
We offer fast deliveries on our screenchangers - standard delivery is 4 weeks.
AutoScreen Design
Autoscreens are beautifully engineered. They are an example of elegant engineering simplicity. AutoScreens are made in one piece, have no moving parts, no booster heaters to burn out, no complicated cooling chambers or flow control valves. The result is trouble-free maintenance-free operation -- year after year.
Our screen cooling entrance and exit chambers do not require Teflon™ coated inserts. In time, Teflon™ coated inserts lose their coating due to abrasive contaminants, overheating or aggressive cleaning. When this happens, the narrow slot design of our competitors will no longer facilitate screen movement. We use Teflon coated inserts only when running ABS or PS, as these materials have higher friction on metal. Our wide slot design enables the ABS and PS producer to continue operation even after the Teflon has worn to a large extent. In these applications, our Teflon coated inserts are coated on both sides so they can be turned over for a second life.
We do not use booster heaters. AutoScreen was the first company to develop this mode of operation (called H - C for heat - cool) but it was quickly discarded because of high maintenance and unacceptable operational problems. We found that very small mistiming of heating periods or water valve failure caused the booster heaters to burn out the Teflon coating on the cooling chamber inserts. For this reason, we never used the booster heaters and Teflon inserts together. It is not necessary and is an engineering mistake.
Autoscreen's solid one piece design ensures absolutely no leakage. Our screen exit flange design has two separate heat zones with a gap between them which provides excellent heat distribution. So-called polymer seal blow outs are completely unknown to AutoScreen.
We offer a number of steel grades to choose from. These material options include stainless steel and iconel. AutoScreen material choice is based upon processing requirements or customer preference.
AutoScreen uses two 5/8" diameter heaters on screenchangers up to 4-1/2" and four heaters on 6" and larger screenchangers. On PET and PA applications, we always use four (4) heaters. We find it much easier to remove and install 5/8" diameter heaters as compared to our competitor's smaller 3/8" diameter heaters.
AutoScreen's breaker plate designs are process driven. We have many designs based upon our years of processing experience. For instance, we use larger holes where minimizing pressure drop is important and smaller holes where more support is needed for fine screens to prevent doming. All of our breaker plates are hardened and are of a simple disc design held in a sleeve so if they get worn, they can be turned for a second life, unlike the integral breaker plate/sleeve used by our competitors.
We offer two sizes of screen cassettes. Our 8" diameter cassette holds 66 feet of screen, while our 12" diameter cassette holds 125 feet of screen. The smaller 8" cassette can be of benefit in applications where space is limited such as multi-layer extrusion or blow molding.
AutoScreen offers only the very best high tensile stainless steel screens made by a specialist wire weaver. The screen edges are finished for very smooth operation. Screens are always in stock for immediate delivery.
Controls
Autoscreen has a choice of screen replacement rate controls. We offer a simple timer-based controller for lightly contaminated materials where constant speed is required, and a controller based on pressure differential which uses two melt pressure transducers. The latter is for applications with heavier and variable contamination which requires screen replacement adjustments to maintain constant pressure and output. This control provides outstanding pressure control with + 15 psi accuracy, automatically and with maximum screen usage economy.
Sophisticated in what it does, but simple in design and operation -- that's AutoScreen! |
